This elegant vintage botanical print by Trowbridge features “Dianthus caryophyllus,” commonly known as the carnation, after the work of Belgian botanical illustrator Louis Stroobant. Stroobant was known for his finely detailed floral studies during the late 19th century, and this example beautifully captures the intricate layered petals and vibrant coloration of the bloom. The composition has a refined, almost sculptural quality, with the dramatic red and white variegation standing out beautifully against the crisp neutral background.

The print is presented in a striking custom frame that feels very reminiscent of Hollywood Regency style, with mirrored panels layered over a silver painted wood surround that gives the piece depth, glamour, and sophistication. The reflective frame contrasts especially well with the vivid botanical subject matter, creating a refined blend of classical floral illustration and more dramatic decorative styling. The layered neutral matting gives the artwork a polished gallery-like presentation while allowing the rich colors of the carnation to remain the focal point.

The artwork is in nice vintage condition, with wear consistent with age and normal use. The mirrored and silvered frame shows light surface wear and minor imperfections as expected with a vintage piece, but overall it presents beautifully and has a sophisticated decorative presence. It would work wonderfully in a bedroom, hallway, powder room, or grouped together with similar botanical prints for a curated wall arrangement. 18h x 15w x 1d
