This vintage oil on canvas captures a luminous summer coastal scene rendered in an Impressionist manner, with loose, confident brushwork and a vibrant palette that evokes warmth, light, and open air. The composition draws the eye from a foreground of flowering color through sunlit trees and rooftops toward the expanse of blue water beyond, dotted with sailboats beneath a sky filled with soft, drifting clouds. Signed P. Maris in the lower corner, the painting has a relaxed, painterly quality that feels both evocative and inviting.

The handling of paint is especially appealing, with layered strokes that suggest movement in the foliage and atmosphere without becoming overly detailed. The coastal setting, likely inspired by a European shoreline, balances architecture and landscape beautifully, giving the work a sense of place while still allowing it to function as a timeless decorative piece. It is housed in an ornate gilt frame that complements the painting’s warmth and adds presence, making it ready to hang and enjoy.

The painting is in nice vintage condition, with wear consistent with age and normal use. There is light surface wear to the frame and subtle, age-appropriate signs of handling to the canvas, all of which are typical for a work of this period and do not detract from its overall presentation. A charming and atmospheric painting that would work equally well in a traditional interior, a coastal home, or layered into a more eclectic collection. 39h x 49w x 3d
