This finely modeled patinated bronze bust of Michelangelo is after a model by Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, created in Paris prior to 1883. Carrier-Belleuse was renowned for his expressive portrait busts and historical figures, and this example captures Michelangelo with remarkable psychological depth, presenting the artist as a contemplative Renaissance master rather than an idealized hero.

The bust displays rich surface modeling, with deeply worked facial features, textured beard, and draped garments that emphasize weight and movement.
