A wonderful relic of Hartford’s public transit history, this lot of three antique double-sided trolley route signs dates to around the 1940s and offers a graphic, authentic look at the golden age of electric streetcars. Printed in bold black block lettering on aged cream or tan board, these signs once hung in metal destination scrolls aboard Hartford’s trolley cars, clearly identifying the route with names such as “STATE & MARKET ST.,” “CAPITOL AVE. TO PROSPECT AVE.,” and “FRANKLIN AVE.”

Each sign is double-sided, with a different route designation printed on the reverse, making them especially appealing to collectors, decorators, and history lovers alike. The striking typography and balanced layout reflect early-to-mid 20th century design sensibilities, and their large size and bold graphics make an immediate impression whether displayed as transportation memorabilia or statement wall art.

These signs are in vintage condition consistent with age and heavy municipal use. There is visible surface wear, soiling, foxing, and losses along the edges—particularly on “BLUE HILLS AVE.” and “FRANKLIN AVE.”—but they remain sturdy and highly displayable. Their honest wear only enhances their character, preserving the story of decades of service on the streets of Hartford. 5 x 17
