This fine pair of antique American side chairs dates to the late 19th century and is executed in the Renaissance Revival style, attributed to the celebrated Newark cabinetmaker John Jelliff. The chairs feature richly carved walnut frames with strong architectural presence, including turned and carved stiles, incised decoration, and boldly shaped crest rails that reflect the historicist influences popular in high-style American furniture of the period.

Each chair is fitted with a distinctive circular, button-tufted upholstered back, framed by deep carving and supported by an elegant central splat. The seats are generously proportioned and upholstered to match, creating a striking contrast between the warm walnut tones and the soft yellow fabric. The legs are finely turned and carved, terminating in original casters that add both visual interest and practical mobility.

The chairs are in nice antique condition, with wear to the walnut surfaces consistent with age and normal use. The upholstery shows light wear but remains presentable and comfortable, making the pair suitable for use or display. A rare and visually compelling set that would work beautifully as accent seating, side chairs, or as statement pieces in a formal interior. 39h x 20w x 20d seat height 18
