This is a really wonderful example of a Shaker #6 tape seat rocker, made by the Mount Lebanon Shakers in the late 19th century. Shaker furniture has always been admired for its simplicity, honesty, and focus on function, and pieces like this embody that philosophy beautifully. The Mount Lebanon community was one of the most prominent Shaker villages, and their craftsmanship is known for its refinement and quiet elegance. This is the kind of chair that feels both historically significant and effortlessly at home in a modern setting.

The construction is exactly what you’d hope to see from a Shaker piece—lightweight yet strong, with clean lines and thoughtful proportions. The woven tape seat and back provide both comfort and visual texture, with a pleasing contrast between the darker frame and the lighter woven material. The gently turned finials, slender arms, and gracefully curved rockers all reflect the understated craftsmanship the Shakers are so well known for. It’s a chair that doesn’t rely on ornament, but instead lets its form and materials speak for themselves.

It is in nice antique condition, showing expected wear consistent with age and use, including light surface wear to the frame. There is a small area where the tape seat has separated, though the seat remains fully functional and usable. The chair is sturdy and comfortable, making it a great option for everyday use while still carrying the story and integrity of Shaker design. 40h x 24w x 28d seat height 17
