This charming New England folk art document box is a wonderful example of mid-19th century American decorative painting. Dating to approximately 1840–1860, the box combines practical storage with the heartfelt simplicity of rural folk art. The lid features a hand-painted portrait of a mother and child dressed in period attire, capturing the warmth and innocence that made these intimate family portraits so enduringly popular.
