This refined Louis XVI period ladies desk dates to the 18th century and embodies the graceful neoclassical elegance associated with the reign of Louis XVI. Raised on slender tapered legs with subtle carving at the knees and apron, the desk has a light architectural presence while the warm-toned wood shows an appealing aged surface and rich antique patina. The top is fitted with a classic tooled leather writing surface, providing both decorative refinement and practical function in keeping with its original use.

The desk features a central drawer flanked by banks of side drawers, offering useful storage while maintaining the balanced, restrained proportions typical of authentic Louis XVI furniture. Of particular note, this piece was deaccessioned from a prominent museum and retains its museum inventory number beneath the apron — a wonderful detail that adds to the desk’s history and provenance.

The desk remains in nice antique condition consistent with age and normal use. There have been restorations over time, including the professional reconstruction of one leg, which was very well executed and blends cleanly with the original structure. The leather top and surfaces show expected signs of use, and the piece presents beautifully while remaining fully functional as an elegant period writing table. 32h x 44w x 21d
