Published in Paris in 1897 by the renowned Goupil & Cie, this elegant photogravure reproduces Premier Chapitre (“First Chapter”), an original painting by French artist François-Edmond Outin (1820–1902). Goupil was one of the foremost fine art publishers of the 19th century, celebrated for producing exceptionally high-quality engravings and photogravures after the works of Europe’s leading academic painters. This charming scene depicts a fashionable young couple beneath the ruins of an old cloister while a lively gathering of figures looks on, capturing the romance and storytelling that made Outin’s work so admired.

The richly detailed photogravure exhibits remarkable tonal depth and delicate coloration, faithfully conveying the atmosphere of the original painting. Presented in an attractive carved wood frame with a wide mat, the composition has a refined, gallery-quality presentation. The combination of architectural ruins, finely dressed figures, and picturesque landscape reflects the 18th-century romantic themes that were especially popular with collectors during the late Victorian era.

This print is in nice antique condition, consistent with age and normal use. The image presents beautifully with pleasing color and detail, while the frame displays expected light wear that complements its antique character. It remains an elegant decorative artwork, equally suited for a traditional home, library, or fine art collection. 22h x 26w x 2d
