Beautiful quarter-sawn oak gives the bookcase its exceptional character, with dramatic tiger grain flowing across the front, sides, and writing surface. The glazed sections retain their lift-up doors, brass knobs, and original Globe-Wernicke manufacturer labels, including grade 299 markings. The secretary section opens to reveal a generous writing surface, numerous letter and document compartments, vertical dividers, and two small drawers. Brass-toned hardware and the warm, richly figured oak finish complete its wonderfully authentic period appearance.
The bookcase is in nice antique or vintage condition, showing the expected surface scratches, finish wear, small marks, variations in color, aged hardware, and some wear and cloudiness to the glass and interior surfaces. The paper Globe-Wernicke labels also show age and partial losses, adding to the piece’s honest history and character. Overall, this is a beautiful and highly usable example of early modular office furniture, offering both display storage and a convenient workspace for a modern home. 79h x 34w x 13d
