This elegant Federal period bow front shaving mirror, dating to around 1830, is a fine example of early 19th century American craftsmanship. Made in richly figured mahogany, the mirror is framed by turned supports with a rectangular plate, set above a case of three bow front drawers. Its refined design reflects the Federal style’s emphasis on clean lines and symmetry, balanced with subtle decorative flourishes.
The three drawers offer convenient storage for grooming items or small personal effects, making the piece both functional and decorative. The bow front shaping adds graceful dimension, while the turned side supports and simple knob pulls keep the overall look understated yet distinguished. Its compact form allows it to serve as a dressing mirror, tabletop accent, or collector’s display piece.
This mirror carries distinguished provenance from the Collection of Barbara Rothschild Michaels and Roger Michaels of New York City and Ossining, New York, with many items in the family passing down from the Estate of Herbert and Nannette Rothschild. It remains in nice antique condition, consistent with age and normal use. The glass plate shows expected signs of age and light silvering, and the case has a warm, well-developed patina. A classic piece of Federal furniture, this mirror holds both practical charm and historical significance, making it a noteworthy addition to any collection or traditional interior. 25h x 21w x 9d
