Crafted from richly figured mahogany, the frame is accented by delicate fan inlays at each corner, a classic Federal decorative motif inspired by the neoclassical designs of the era. The mirror retains its original hand-silvered glass, displaying the soft reflective quality and subtle character that collectors value in early mirrors. The warm mahogany has developed a beautiful, mellow patina over more than two centuries, further enhancing the mirror’s quiet elegance and authenticity.
The mirror is in nice antique condition consistent with its age and more than 200 years of use. The original hand-silvered mirror plate exhibits expected age-related oxidation, clouding, and light spotting that contribute to its authentic antique character. The mahogany frame shows minor surface wear and scattered imperfections consistent with careful use over time while remaining structurally sound and presenting beautifully. It is an exceptional and highly usable example of American Federal craftsmanship. 30h x 19w x 1d
