Crafted in mahogany and richly figured mahogany veneer, each chair features a broad tablet crest above a shaped central splat with lyre- or urn-like contours. The continuous curved stiles flow neatly into the seat rails, while the saber-form front and rear legs create the poised profile associated with the late Federal and early Classical periods. Both chairs have been restored and reupholstered at some point in a warm cream-and-gold fabric patterned with small stylized floral motifs.
The chairs are in nice antique condition following an earlier restoration, with expected signs of age and use including scattered scratches, small dents, finish variation, minor veneer irregularities, visible join lines, and evidence of old repairs. The later upholstery remains usable but shows light staining, discoloration, and general wear. Their warm patina, handsome figuring, and comfortable upholstered seats make this a beautiful and practical pair with more than two centuries of history. 31h x 17w x 18d seat height 19
