This compelling set of three antique trolley signs hails from the historic Hartford streetcar system, dating to around the 1940s. These were once mounted inside or on the exterior of electric trolleys, guiding riders through neighborhoods and across town. This lot features the following destinations: HILLSTOWN VIA BREWER ST., OLD STATE HOUSE, and FERN ST. TO POOL—each with bold black lettering on cream or tan board, still vivid and legible decades later.
Printed on heavy paperboard with double-sided lettering, these signs are a striking example of mid-century transit ephemera. The typography is a quintessential example of early 20th-century utility signage—clear, functional, and commanding. Their weathered surfaces now lend a warm authenticity that only time can produce, making them perfect for display in a transit-themed space, man cave, or local history collection.
These signs are in vintage condition consistent with age and use. There is wear to the edges and corners, particularly on the HILLSTOWN VIA BREWER ST. sign, which shows an upper-left corner loss. Some surface spotting, darkening, and warping is present, especially on the FERN ST. TO POOL example, but all signs remain stable and highly displayable. A fun slice of Connecticut transit history. 5 x 17
