An impressive American Empire cheval mirror dating to around 1840, exquisitely carved with acanthus and barbola rose motifs. The oval mirror is framed in rich, dark mahogany and supported by turned and carved uprights that rest on paw feet—an iconic detail of early 19th-century American craftsmanship. The mirror retains its original pivot hardware, allowing it to tilt and adjust within the frame for practical use while displaying dramatic sculptural presence.

The ornate carving throughout the base and uprights reflects the height of the Empire style, when bold, classical ornamentation was used to convey elegance and permanence. The natural depth of the mahogany grain, combined with the detailed acanthus scrolls and floral motifs, adds warmth and sophistication to the piece. This cheval mirror would have originally graced a fine dressing room or parlor, and it remains as stately today as it was nearly two centuries ago.

In nice antique condition consistent with age and use. The mirror plate shows expected light wear and silvering typical for the period, adding to its authenticity. The wood frame retains a rich patina and crisp carving throughout, making this a striking and substantial statement piece for any traditional or historic interior. 75h x 36w x 32d
