This delightful antique Turkish Konya Yastik tribal rug was handwoven in Turkey in the late 19th century. Featuring a unique stepped medallion motif that recalls a stylized mihrab, the design is anchored by a soft green central panel adorned with primitive floral rosettes. Surrounding it are serrated motifs in soft saffron, burnt orange, and pale sky blue, set against a golden-tan field. The playful border of stylized tulips adds an especially charming folkloric touch.

Woven in wool on wool, this rug retains a soft, supple texture and has aged gracefully. There are areas of wear, particularly in the corners and field where the pile has thinned, as well as some losses to the fringe, all consistent with a well-loved, utilitarian household rug of this age. Despite these, the colors remain luminous and the design radiates with a warmth that’s hard to replicate.

Its intimate size makes it perfect for a small entryway, beside a bed or reading chair, or even hung on the wall as a piece of art. It’s a wonderful way to introduce vintage Turkish charm and rich color into a curated interior.

This rug comes from the private collection of a prominent antique rug dealer based in Amherst, Massachusetts, known for curating fine Persian and Oriental carpets over several decades.
