Woven in Northeast Persia by a Baluch weaver in the late 19th century, this striking tribal rug presents a highly organized field of diagonal latticework filled with stylized rosettes and latch-hook medallions. The graphic repeat of dark madder, navy, and copper tones gives the rug a deep, rhythmic presence while reflecting the weaver’s precision and sense of balance.

The narrow ivory-ground border of stylized stars provides elegant contrast, while the camel-colored wool weft, characteristic of older Baluch pieces, is visible at the selvage and lends the rug a warm, earthy glow. The flatwoven ends with decorative bands are intact, an increasingly rare detail that hints at this rug’s original, unaltered state.

From the private collection of a respected antique rug dealer in Amherst, Massachusetts, this piece exemplifies the finest traditions of tribal Baluch weaving and would make a valuable addition to any collector’s holdings.
