A handsome Sandwich Glass whale oil lamp dating to the mid-19th century, circa 1840. The lamp features a tapered hand-blown font over a baluster turned stem supported by a stepped and lobed pressed glass base, a design strongly associated with the output of the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company during the antebellum period. The blending of blown and pressed components highlights the technological advancements in American glassmaking during the second quarter of the 19th century.

These early lamps were designed for whale oil illumination before the adoption of kerosene, and today they serve as wonderfully sculptural decorative objects with strong historical presence. The original threaded collar remains intact and the form presents with good scale and clarity, making it an appealing example for collectors of early American lighting, period decorative arts, or Sandwich glass.

In nice antique condition, consistent with age and use. There is a crack in the base that is not readily visible unless closely inspected and the lamp remains structurally sound. Expected minor wear and imperfections from manufacture and handling are present, typical for genuine period examples. 12h x 4w x 4d
