These stunning Antique Louis XV Rococo Portor de Pyrénées Console Tables date back to the late 18th century and are crafted from finely detailed carved wood with a rich patina. The tables are topped with exquisite marble, which complements the ornate woodwork featuring floral motifs and scrolled accents typical of the Rococo period. Their elegant, curvaceous legs and delicate carvings give them an air of sophistication that would have been highly coveted during their time.
Interestingly, the bottom of one of the tables is stenciled with “New York MSG,” which suggests that these tables were once used at the iconic Madison Square Garden. This connection to one of New York’s most famous venues adds a unique historical element to the furniture. Given that the first Madison Square Garden, located at the corner of 26th Street and Madison Avenue, operated from 1879 to 1890, it’s possible these tables were used in the earlier part of the 20th century at one of the Garden’s subsequent venues, which would have been an elegant setting for these pieces.
While the tables are in remarkably good condition, it’s worth noting that one of the urns has a crack, though it does not affect the stability or overall aesthetics of the piece. The tables have survived through the centuries with only minor imperfections, adding to their character. They continue to evoke the grandeur of their era, making them not only a remarkable example of Louis XV Rococo design but also a piece of New York history. Whether used in a period home or displayed as part of an antique collection, these tables are sure to be admired for both their beauty and provenance.
