A charming pair of mid-19th century portrait plates by Haviland & Co. of Limoges, France, each featuring a finely rendered bust portrait in rich hand-painted enamel. One depicts a young woman in a feathered hat, the other a young man wearing a laurel-style crown, both set against deep cobalt blue grounds that beautifully heighten the painterly detail and tonality of the faces.

The plates are mounted within period rose velvet mats and simple wooden frames, presenting as a unified pair ready for display. The velvet adds warmth and texture while reinforcing the salon-style presentation fashionable in 19th-century France.

The pair remains in nice antique condition with age-appropriate wear to the frames and velvet. One plate shows a chip on the back (not visible from the front) that does not affect structural integrity or presentation. Craquelure and light handling wear to the glazes appear consistent with age and normal use. A lovely addition for collectors of Limoges, French portraiture, or refined decorative arts. 19h x 19w x 2d
