This handsome late 19th-century Northeast Persian Baluch rug features a classic arrangement of three bold guls set within a rich red field. The octagonal motifs, framed by angular latticework and stylized ram’s horn elements, are rendered in deep indigo, ivory, and muted brown, offering strong contrast and tribal rhythm. The border design is equally compelling, composed of small-scale geometric elements and fine guard stripes that emphasize the precision of the weaving.

Woven in soft wool with a slightly glossy sheen, the rug is in nice antique condition, showing age-appropriate wear including some light abrash and minor low areas in the pile, most evident around the center gul. The colors remain strong and the foundation sound, making it a great example of traditional Baluch tribal work.

Perfect for layering over a larger neutral rug, using at the foot of a bed, or bringing a warm, authentic touch to an entryway or reading nook, this piece has a presence that’s both rugged and refined. Its compact size and graphic punch also make it an ideal choice for designers seeking character pieces to add to curated interiors.

This rug is part of the private collection of a prominent antique rug dealer in Amherst, Massachusetts, and speaks to their focus on exceptional tribal weaving with strong decorative appeal.
