This richly woven antique Kashmiri kani shawl features a bold central medallion from which vibrant floral and paisley forms burst outward in a star-like arrangement. The design is executed in deep reds, blues, and golden ochres, with rhythmic symmetry and graceful scrolling borders that frame the field with authority. While unsigned, the quality of the weaving, color balance, and overall structure speak to a highly skilled artisan working in one of Kashmir’s elite karkhanas of the late 19th century.

The kani weaving technique, done with bobbins (kanis) rather than a shuttle, allows for exceptional detail, and this piece makes full use of that capacity—each motif crisply defined and harmoniously placed. The dramatic central black medallion adds contrast and depth, making this shawl particularly striking when hung as a textile or used decoratively in the home.

In nice antique condition with some light wear to the fringes and a small stain in the field, as shown in the photos. This shawl is part of the private collection of a prominent antique rug dealer in Amherst, MA. A wonderful piece for collectors or interior designers seeking an authentic, historic textile with strong visual impact. 5’10 x 5’10
