A handsome mid-19th century Hepplewhite demilune game table in mahogany, displaying the refined simplicity and elegant proportions that defined the late Georgian and early Federal period taste. The half-round form allows the piece to sit tightly against a wall as a console when not in use, opening to a round playing surface when needed. The mahogany shows a mellow, warm tone with a pleasing grain that reads wonderfully in natural light.
The apron retains subtle inlaid oval reserves above each leg—quiet but characteristic Hepplewhite details—paired with square-tapered legs that terminate simply without additional carving. The hinged top opens smoothly to reveal the game table interior, preserving the intended versatility for both decorative and functional use. Pieces of this form served in parlors and drawing rooms of the period, offering a refined alternative to bulkier 18th century gaming furniture.
In nice antique condition consistent with age and normal use, displaying faint surface marks and expected wear from over a century and a half of domestic life, with nothing distracting from its utility or form. A classic and useful example ideal for a hall, living room, or dining passage where a demilune footprint is often preferred. 29h x 35w 17d closed 35d open
