A handsome Sheraton cookie-corner game table dating to the Federal period, c. 1830, rendered in richly figured mahogany with that warm, quiet glow that only early 19th century furniture seems to carry. The distinctive serpentine “cookie corner” profile gives the top its elegant contour, while the apron displays strong veneer work and pleasing symmetry. When closed, the piece functions as a refined console in a hall or parlor; when opened and swung on its rear leg, it forms a generous square gaming surface as originally intended for cards and tea.

The table stands on four fluted and turned legs — a classic Sheraton vocabulary — tapering delicately to simplified feet. These elongated reedings and turned elements capture the transition between late Federal and early Classical taste, when American cabinet shops were absorbing English patterns while adapting them to domestic scale and proportion. The form is both decorative and versatile, and it remains a favorite with designers for narrow wall spaces.

In nice antique condition consistent with age and normal use, showing light surface wear, minor expected marks to the top, and an overall well-preserved structure with nothing distracting from presentation or utility. A lovely and authentic Federal-period survivor with great legs, great color, and an always useful form. 30h x 36w x 18d closed 36d open
