This antique Persian Farahan mat, dating to the late 19th century, features a richly dyed teal field accented by stylized floral and vine motifs in rust, ivory, and midnight blue. The scrolling palmettes and central rosette pattern are framed by a classic Herati-style border, all rendered with the refined elegance that defines the Farahan weaving tradition.

Woven with a fine, tight knot and a cotton foundation, this small-format piece would have originally served as a poshti or hearthside mat. Its scale, however, lends itself beautifully to modern use as an accent or collector’s display item — ideal for highlighting a curated space with authentic Persian artistry.

This mat comes from the private collection of a longtime rug dealer in Amherst, MA, and remains in nice antique condition with some expected age wear and patina that add to its charm and authenticity.
