This stunning late 19th century Chinese Coromandel screen features richly detailed Chinoiserie artistry on both sides, offering two completely different visual experiences. One side is adorned with a vibrant landscape of birds in flight and flowering branches set against a metallic gilt background, framed in red and gold with auspicious roundel and floral motifs. The reverse presents an elegant garden scene rendered in deep black lacquer with bursts of red, ivory, and green, showcasing peacocks, pheasants, flowering trees, and mythical beasts with expressive movement and exceptional linework.

Composed of four panels, each hand-carved and painted, the screen is mounted on sturdy feet with brass caps and retains its original hinges. Coromandel screens were originally used in elite Qing dynasty interiors for both privacy and decorative display, and this example exemplifies the traditional techniques of lacquer carving and multicolor pigment infill, all executed with a high degree of craftsmanship.

In nice antique condition, with some expected wear, minor scuffs, and areas of lacquer loss consistent with age and use, particularly to the gilt side (as pictured). A remarkable statement piece whether used as a functional room divider or as dramatic wall art. Panel size 72h x 16w approximately 58w open
