This beautifully carved Chinese arm chair likely dates to the late Qing dynasty or early Republic period and is possibly crafted from suan zhi mu—also known as black sour branch wood—prized for its deep hue and fine grain. The back splat is elaborately pierced with traditional Chinese motifs, including the shou character symbolizing longevity, flanked by symmetrical foliage and bats, which are auspicious symbols of good fortune.

The crest rail features a gently undulating cloud form with openwork carving, echoed by scrollwork along the apron and arms. The solid seat panel, curved armrests, and squared legs with double stretchers give the piece a grounded presence that balances its ornate decoration. This chair would have originally served as a symbol of status and is well-suited for use today as an accent chair or statement piece in any interior.

In nice antique condition with minor surface wear and finish variation consistent with age and use. A rare example of traditional Chinese craftsmanship with strong decorative appeal. 39h x 25w x 19d
