This vibrant late 19th-century Caucasian Kazak rug bursts with tribal energy and saturated color. The rug’s central field features two stacked octagonal medallions in pistachio green and deep indigo, each enclosing stylized trees of life—a traditional motif symbolic of strength, fertility, and protection. Surrounding the medallions are smaller geometric figures and floral rosettes, adding balance and a sense of movement to the richly colored red ground.

The borders are equally expressive, with a bold, jagged vine scroll outer band and intricate serrated leaf and diamond motifs framing the central composition. The palette, dominated by rich rust red, teal, ivory, forest green, and soft brown, reflects the distinctive dyework of 19th-century Kazak tribal weaving.

This rug is in nice antique condition, retaining strong pile throughout, though with minor edge wear and a few scattered low spots that speak to its age and authenticity. The ends are mostly intact, with only light fraying.

Due to its compact size and striking geometry, this piece would be a standout as a layered accent on larger carpets, a decorative wall hanging, or in an entryway, reading nook, or studio space where warmth and a touch of tribal artistry are welcome.

This rug comes from the private collection of a prominent antique rug dealer in Amherst, Massachusetts, and is a wonderful example of late 19th-century Caucasian textile artistry with enduring decorative appeal.
