This evocative antique Baluch rug, woven in the mid-19th century in Northeast Persia, presents an unusual and deeply compelling variation on the tree of life motif. The richly saturated field is filled with stacked, stylized botanical forms—interpreted by some as abstracted trees, ram’s horns, or tribal medallions—each rendered in vegetal-dyed hues of indigo, madder, and earthy greens against a warm camel-toned ground.

The spacious, almost architectural drawing of the field sets this piece apart from denser Baluch patterns. The borders are framed with a meandering vine and classic barber-pole guard stripes, giving this tribal weaving a grounded sense of balance. There is wear commensurate with age, but the structure is sound, and the color remains nuanced and vibrant.

From the private collection of a respected antique rug dealer in Amherst, MA, this piece would appeal to collectors of early Baluch weavings and anyone drawn to tribal rugs with symbolic, meditative presence.
