This late 19th century rug from the Baluch tribes of the Khorasan region in northeast Persia offers a refined display of repeating floral medallions drawn in a saturated palette of deep indigo, ivory, coral, and madder red. The graphic field design features a dynamic latticework of stylized blossoms arranged with rhythmic precision—a hallmark of Baluch tribal weaving at its finest.

The main border is particularly compelling, with interlocking angular motifs in ivory over a vibrant red ground, framed by reciprocal guard borders and a narrow floral inner band that echoes the geometry of the field. The wool is characteristically lustrous, dyed with natural pigments that have softened beautifully with time. This piece likely originated from the Herat area or along the Persian-Afghan border, where many of the finest tribal rugs were produced in small, semi-nomadic workshops.

From the private collection of a prominent antique rug dealer in Amherst, Massachusetts, this rug is in nice antique condition, showing even wear and some areas of low pile that speak to its age and use. A superb example of late 19th-century tribal weaving with a design that balances strength and delicacy—an appealing find for both collectors and designers alike.
