This antique Baluch prayer rug from Northeast Persia features a tightly drawn lattice of offset stars and angular blossoms, arranged in a deeply meditative layout that radiates geometric rhythm and tribal symmetry. The field is rendered in a warm camel tone, likely undyed wool, surrounded by classic Baluch borders in deep aubergine, rust, and midnight blue, forming a richly layered frame.

The stepped mihrab above is subtle but present, with symbolic elements including stylized comb motifs tucked into the spandrels—interpreted by some as protective talismans. The natural abrashed field and saturated vegetal dyes speak to the rug’s age and authenticity, while the use of diagonal symmetry suggests connections to Timuri workshop or village weaving traditions in the Herat or Khorasan region.

This piece, with its crisp execution and harmony of form, comes from the private collection of a respected antique rug dealer in Amherst, Massachusetts. A superb example for collectors interested in devotional weavings or tribal rugs from the eastern Persian frontier.
