This Baluch prayer rug from the Khorosan region in northeast Persia showcases a classic lattice field of octagonal guls in rich, moody hues of midnight blue, brick red, and oxidized brown, with subtle ivory accents providing highlights. The abrash across the field gives the rug a dynamic visual texture, with areas of deep indigo yielding to softer, warmer tones. A delicate ram’s horn border frames the field, enclosing the meditative geometry within.

Though woven in the early 20th century, this rug holds firm to the tribal aesthetics of older Baluch traditions. Its wool is soft and lustrous, and while it shows wear and areas of visible low pile and some loss at the ends, it remains structurally intact and full of character. The slightly asymmetric shape is a reminder of its handwoven origin and adds to its tribal authenticity.

This piece comes from the private collection of a well-known antique rug dealer in Amherst, MA, and is well-suited to collectors who appreciate Baluch weavings with strong geometry and soulful patina. An evocative example that would work beautifully layered over a larger carpet or used as a textile accent.
