This striking antique American Empire drop leaf table dates to around 1840 and showcases the bold sculptural character associated with the Empire period in American furniture. The rectangular top features two drop leaves that allow the table to expand for use or fold compactly when space is needed, making it a practical and versatile form. The warm wood grain and rich finish highlight the solid craftsmanship typical of mid-19th century American cabinetmaking.

The table stands on a dramatic pedestal base with finely carved scrolling supports terminating in impressive eagle-form feet. These deeply carved talons gripping spherical elements are a classic Empire motif inspired by ancient Roman symbolism and widely used in American furniture of the period. The table also includes two drawers fitted with original glass pulls, a wonderful period detail that adds both functionality and authenticity while enhancing the decorative appeal of the piece.

The table is in nice antique condition consistent with age and normal use. The surface shows wear and patina appropriate for a piece of this age, contributing to its authentic character while remaining very serviceable.
