This handsome chest reflects the restrained elegance of American Federal furniture, combining clean architectural lines with delicate decorative details. The four graduated drawers, warm cherry color, and wonderfully shaped scalloped apron give the piece a distinctive presence. The combination of its straightforward form and refined ornamentation makes it a lovely example of early American cabinetmaking, equally suited to a traditional home or a thoughtfully furnished contemporary interior.

Constructed primarily of cherry, the chest features four generously proportioned drawers, each decorated with delicate contrasting string inlay outlining the drawer fronts. The inlaid borders incorporate gracefully shaped corners, adding a subtle decorative element without overwhelming the natural beauty of the wood. The drawers are fitted with oval brass pulls featuring classical decorative motifs and matching keyhole escutcheons. A molded top with a gently projecting edge provides a clean finishing touch, while the shaped apron and bracket feet lend the chest a particularly appealing silhouette. The rich reddish-brown cherry displays attractive grain patterns and natural color variations that contribute to its warmth and character.

The chest is in nice antique condition, showing scattered surface marks, minor scratches, and variations in color and finish consistent with more than two centuries of age and normal use. The legs exhibit well-executed past repairs that have been carefully integrated into the piece and do not detract significantly from its overall appearance. The cherry retains a warm, inviting character, beautifully complementing the delicate inlay and graceful proportions. Offering four spacious drawers for practical storage, this chest would make a wonderful addition to a bedroom, hallway, living room, or entryway. A handsome and versatile piece of early American furniture that combines historic craftsmanship with everyday usefulness. 36h x 38w x 20d

Local delivery available for a fee or pick up Westfield MA

Please contact me prior to purchasing with delivery address if you would like the item shipped to you.
